Toronto, Canada - April, 2008 - International hip/hop recording artist Ludacris, and prominent hip/hop producer DJ Premier came to Toronto this month and recorded/produced tracks at Cherry Beach Sound for the upcoming record, Theater of the Mind slated for release late this year under Disturbing tha Peace. Also attending the sessions was producer and multi-instrumentalist, Rich Nice, who has worked on records by LL Cool J, KRS-One, Ice Cube, Nas, Foxy Brown, and Mary J. Blige.
Christopher Bridges aka "Ludacris", commented on being very pleased "the facility is top notch, and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty." "It was an honor hosting Ludacris, Premier and the entire crew. They are extremely focused and we are looking forward to seeing them again soon", said Cherry Beach Sound VP Christopher Guerrieri.
Ludacris has sold more than thirteen million records in the United States alone. He is also the rapper with the most Top 40, Top 25 and Top 10 Billboard Hot 100 Hits of all time. In addition, The Source Magazine named DJ Premier one of the 5 greatest producers in hip-hop history, while editors from About.com ranked him as #1 in their "Top 50 Hip-Hop Producers" list.

Toronto, Canada – April 18th 2008 -- Canadian recording artist Saukrates visited us this week with Chris Smith Management to mix songs for his upcoming solo record, slated for release late this year under the Capital Hill Music label.
“It was a pleasure having Sox in, he is very gifted and we are proud to have him as a fellow Canadian. This album is going to be awesome!” said Cherry Beach Sound VP Christopher Guerrieri.
In addition to his than his own album, Saukrates is also working on Redman’s album at Gilla House and Andreena Mill’s debut album. He has worked with: Redman, Method Man, Common, Xzibit, Kurupt, Eric Sermon, Masta Ace, OC, Pharoahe Monche, and Helta Skelta.

AJ Brown to perform in China and Japan
April 10th 2008

Singer / songwriter AJ Brown, will leave next week for the Far East – at the invitation of Jamaica’s Ministry of Tourism, which will be on a two-week mission to China and Japan, headed by tourism minister Edmund Bartlett, starting April 11. “The president of the board” as he’s referred to, amongst his peers, Brown is the only Jamaican performer to be invited on the mission. He will appear at major events at the China Outbound Travel and Tourism Market (China World Trade Centre, Beijing); and the Ritz Carlton, Beijing. He will also perform in Tokyo, after Beijing, both for the first time.
On the strength of his versatility and new album, Brown was also invited to perform last February by the City of Toronto (Canada) in a concert that ended Black History Month.
A number of truly unique and outstanding Canadian musicians are featured in the 10 cover songs of Voice of Love. Lance Anderson, well known arranger and producer worked his magic in strings and orchestral arrangements and added another dimension with playing piano and synthesizer. J.K. Gulley - acoustic guitar; Russ Boswell – bass; Gary Craig– drums; Ron Korb - penny whistle, flute, bass flute; Tony Carlucci – trumpet; Jef Ten Kortenaar - strings concertmaster; Bethany Bergman, Drew Jurecka, Nancy Kershaw, Csaba Koczo; Lance Quellette and Stephen Sitarski – violins; Orly Bitov – cello; and Engineer - Inaam Haq.

Lets Go To War

Cherry Beach Sound was pleased to welcome LETS GO TO WAR. The energizing Toronto-based electro/hip-hop group joined us this month to mix their new album slated for release by Last Gang Records shortly.
Engineering the session was veteran West Coast mixer Roger Swan, who has worked with some of the greatest Canadian urban acts to date, including the likes of Nelly Furtado, K-Os, Rascalz, and Swollen Members.
Keep your ears to the pavement, because when this album releases, it will undoubtedly take the country and world by storm. DJ Cirkut, Jet Brown, and Sonny G have an infectious merge of hip-hop vocals, earth shattering bass, and digital house that will make your ears bleed and your body rock!

The hard working rapper/vocalist/songwriter Jhevon Paris has been in the studio recently, recording material for an upcoming album with producer Ron Allen, as well as putting the finishing touches on Human, a remix cover of the old Human League song from the 80's, which is currently enjoying radio play. Cherry Beach Sound was happy to host R&B/pop singer and MuchMusic fave George Nozuka, for the recording of his next single with producer Ron Allen. George’s first album “Believe”, featuring the hit single “Talk To Me”, reached the top spot on the MuchMusic Countdown in 2006, and he has remained a favorite internationally.
George was discovered and signed by HC Entertainment Group, which consists of CJ Huyer (formerly of 3 Deep) and Howie Dorough (of the Backstreet Boys).

Trevor Dick is a popular electric and acoustic violinist. With amazing versatility on his instruments, including the violin, viola, and five-string electric violin, Trevor has just released his fourth and most ambitious project, a double disc Christmas album entitled "Glory and Peace", mastered at Cherry Beach Sound. The album features full band arrangements as well as more intimate, acoustic duos. The record was recorded and mixed by Richard Cleaver.

Cherry Beach Sound was pleased to welcome the Jonas Brothers, working in the studio while they were in town shooting for Disney's upcoming movie "Camp Rock". Musical brothers Nick, Joe and Kevin came up from the states, working with L.A. producer John Fields, drummer Dorian "Wook" Crozier and touring M.D. John "J.T." Taylor. The Jonas Brothers are signed to Hollywood Records, owned by Disney. The brothers are hard at work and are off to promote their newly released, self-titled record with a sold out tour opening for Hannah Montana.

Sean 'The Pen' Garret

Singer/songwriter/producer Sean 'The Pen' Garrett recently spent time at Cherry Beach Sound working on his debut solo record for Interscope Records. Present in session were Dallas-based producers King Logan and Jerome making beats, with Sean's engineer Miles Walker.
The six-time Grammy Award nominated Garrett has had a string of number one hits for artists including Usher, Nelly, Beyonce, Chris Brown, Ciara, Fergie, Pussycat Dolls, Enrique Iglesias-Dimelo and Kelly Rowland. Garrett is expected to release his album later this year on Interscope chairman Jimmy Iovine's label, Bet I Penned It Music.

International recording artist Usher came to Toronto this month and recorded tracks at Cherry Beach Sound for his upcoming record, slated for release late this year under the Zomba label group. The record is being produced by Timbaland.
At the studio were Usher, Timbaland, King Logan and Jerome (producers for Timbaland), hit songwriter Sean Garret and top songwriting team The Clutch, with engineers Jimmy Douglass and Miles Walker. Mark Pitts, President of Urban Music for the Zomba Label Group oversaw the session, which coincided with Timbaland's presence in the city as part of the recent Toronto dates on the Justin Timberlake tour.
The team took over the entire studio, breaking out into multiple rooms to work on different tasks simultaneously. It was the first time any of the group had ever recorded in Toronto. Mark Pitts commented on being very pleased "with how accommodating everyone was." Studio staff Inaam Haq, Ron Allen, and Jordan Valeriote worked hard to make sure to make sure everyone was happy.
"It was a pleasure hosting Usher, Timbaland and the whole Zomba crew. They are extremely talented and we are looking forward to seeing them again in the near future," said Cherry Beach Sound studio manager Chris Guerrieri.

Over the last several months, Producer Ron Allen has been busy recording in our Studio ‘B’. As a co-owner of Strobe Records and Lead Producer/Songwriter for NDIGO Music, Ron Allen has been producing for over 20 years. Currently, Producer Ron Allen has been working with R&B/Latin singer Cindy Gomez who is managed by Tom Stephen of the Jeff Healy Band and up-coming artist Alicia. He is also in the process of working on a remix project with Pop/R&B artist George Nozuka. George Nozuka is an American-Canadian R&B/Pop singer of Asian American descent. In the week of October 27, his debut single, "Talk to Me" peaked at #1 on the MuchMusic Music Video countdown.

Niko Vuorela, from Perttula, Finland and his cousin Teemu Suvinen, from
Hyvinkää, Finland flew all the way over to record songs by the band, KISS. It was the two budding rock
stars' first trip to Toronto and they loved the experience. They say that
recording at Cherry Beach was a "dream come true, and will become a lifetime
memory." We enjoyed recording them, and Carman and Jordan had a blast
playing bass and drums for Detroit Rock City.

Proxy Set CD Release

We'd like to congratulate Proxy Set for completing their new CD! The album was recorded and mastered here at Cherry Beach Sound by our senior engineer, Inaam Haq. The band has five members, who each contribute to a diversity of sound from delicate and soft to hard and edgy.

An Adventure with Bonaventure

Students from St.
Bonaventure Catholic School recently recorded several songs to be released on
a CD by their school. St. Bonaventure recorded a similar CD last year and we're
happy to say they loved the process enough to come back this year.
Over 30 students sang classic songs accompanied by their teachers, Mrs. Sheehan
and Mr. Graham. We were impressed by how hard working and talented the young
singers are and we're pleased that we could share this experience with them.

Richard Underhill

We're thrilled to have recently recorded with Richard Underhill for his upcoming album. Richard is an acclaimed jazz musician, and has toured Canada and Europe for over 22 years with great success. His 2003 debut solo album won a Juno Award, and his 2005 followup, Moment in Time - which was recorded at Cherry Beach Sound - was nominated for a Juno.
As well as his successful solo career, Richard Underhill was a founding member of The Shuffle Demons, leads several bands including The Funk Explosion and AstroGroove, and has recorded and performed with the musicians like The Neville Brothers, Kathleen Edwards, Taj Mahal, Hawksley Workman and many more. The tunes sound great and we can't wait for their release.

Breakout showcase at Cherry Beach Sound

Last night we hosted an industry showcase for Atlantic Records artist, Ko. Music executives from around North America flew in for an intimate acoustic performance and to hear cuts from Ko's debut record. Producer Ron Allen, Manager Tom Stevens, and of course Ko himself have been working hard recording and mixing the album for the last three months at Cherry Beach Sound. We're very excited for them as they had the opportunity to share their work with key members of the music industry.

For the next few months, we will be hosting NATIONAL Public Relations and The Ontario Power Authority, to produce their popular radio show "Power Lines" featuring TV personality Liza Fromer, and Ontario Energy Conservation Officer, Peter Love. Together, Liza and Peter explore how everyone from homeowners to industry can conserve electricity to help save money and the environment.

The Sports Network in Surround

This week we hosted The Sports Network (TSN) to mix tags for their 2008/2009 season. These intros will be used with the complete lineup of TSN programming and were done in 5.1 surround sound format.
The Sports Network (TSN) was established in 1984 as Canada's first national television network devoted exclusively to sports. Since that time TSN has become the most widely viewed Canadian specialty channel, with nearly 8 million subscribers.

We were excited to host a Source Connect session with Studio Boogie of Montreal recently to produce a series of Television Commercials for allergy relief product Claritin. For this session we utilized the Source Connect software, which enables audio connections between digital audio systems anywhere in the world, allowing direct-to-the-timeline recording, real-time.

Team Visa

We recently hosted the Toronto division of Advertising Company Leo Burnett and Visa, to produce a series of television commercials for Team Visa, which supports athletes attending the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, and throughout the 1,460 days of training in between. Team Visa provides both financial support and mentors to selected athletes to help guide their way through the challenges they may face in preparing to compete at the Games.
Today, Leo Burnett is one of the biggest and most successful advertising companies in the world. Among its clients are McDonald’s, Coca-Cola, Walt Disney, Marlboro, Kellogg’s, Tampax, Nintendo, U.S. Army, Philips, Samsung, Visa, Wrigley’s, Hallmark, etc. It has 97 offices in 84 countries.

Modio Media Wins Big At Telly Awards

We would like to Congratulate everyone at Modio Media, as they took top honors at the 29th annual Telly Awards, winning five Silver Tellys in multiple categories for the TV special And They Came To Chicago: The Italian American Legacy, which premiered to critical acclaim on WTTW11 (PBS) and NBC5 in Spring 2007.
And They Came To Chicago traces the remarkable story of the Italian presence in Chicago from the first wave of immigrants who settled here in the 1850's to the present, while probing universal themes key to understanding the Italian American experience nationally.
Cherry Beach Sound was delighted to work with Tony Award-winner Joe Mantegna, who provided narration for the production. The film is written and directed by Torontonian Chris Smets and is being produced by Peace Arch. Mantegna has had a long and successful career from his early roles in films like The Godfather: Part III, to his more recent work in Joan of Arcadia and The Simpsons.

Max Payne in the House

We are happy to have the folks at Twentieth Century Fox in the back warehouse for the next four months for set design and storage. They are currently producing the feature film Max Payne, based on the popular video game. The movie began filming in Toronto on March 2nd and will be completed by May of this year.

Max Payne (played by Mark Wahlberg) is a cop who is haunted by the tragic loss of his family and has little regard for rules as he investigates a series of mysterious murders. He finds himself up against an adversary bent on destroying Max and the streets he protects.

Toronto based Production Company Generator Films and Nestlés Turtles recently visited us to shoot a commercial for their "Sing the Turtles Jingle and Win" contest which gives participants a chance to be featured in the next Turtles TV commercial. The winning jingle aired during the 2008 Grammy Awards.

Heads Up!

We are happy to have Canadian science journalist, Bob McDonald in the studio over the next few months as he is recording the narration for Soapbox Productions' hit series, Heads Up!
Bob Mcdonald is the senior science correspondent for CBC Radio and CBC Television, and hosts a weekly radio show, Quirks and Quarks. He also hosted Wonderstruck, a science program for children, and the special The Greatest Canadian Invention.
Heads Up! is a 26 part science series about astronomy and astronautics for youth aged 8 to 12. The series takes kids beyond the basics of the Big Dipper and the Moon and introduces them to the magical content and practical context of the nightsky.
Heads Up! was nominated for two Gemini awards for best children's TV program and best writing for a children's TV program in August of 2006

Liev Schreiber and Secrets of the Dead

Cherry Beach Sound was pleased to host actor Liev Schreiber in the studio, voicing narration for an episode of Secrets of the Dead, produced by Thirteen WNET New York. Liev was in town while shooting a movie, and was joined by his director, Jared Lipworth, from New York. Secrets of the Dead investigates crime scenes through out history.

Fashion designer Lida Baday was in our back space today with Chris Nicholls photography for a photo shoot to debut her newest clothing line which will be released shortly. Baday made her official design debut on the Toronto fashion scene in 1987.
One of her most recent collections has more than 160 pieces in prominent retailers across Canada and the United States, including Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom, Bergdorf Goodman and Saks Fifth Avenue.

A Dungeon Siege Tale

We recently completed work on the French trailer for the upcoming Hollywood film "In The Name of the King." The 90 second trailer was mixed in 5.1 surround in Cherry Beach Sound's Studio 'A'. This action/adventure fantasy is being produced by Brightlight Pictures and stars Burt Reynolds, Jason Statham and Leelee Sobieski. It will be in theatres January 11, 2008.

Ving Rhames, the voice of BET's "American Gangster"

We were happy to host Hollywood actor Ving Rhames in the studio this week as he recorded the narration for BET’s hit new series, American Gangster. Executive produced by Nelson George and Frank Sinton (Asylum Entertainment), along with Mark Rowland and BET, the series profiles an infamous crime figure each week through the use of archival footage, photographs and interviews with people familiar with the various cases. American Gangster was rated as the #1 original series on the BET network.

The Note
October 12, 2007

Cherry Beach Sound was recently taken over by "The Note", a Hallmark Channel Original Movie premiering Saturday, December 8 (9/8c). The production had the run of the studio, with setups in both control rooms, and crew lunch taking place in our rehearsal hallway.
The movie is based on Angela Hunt's novel of the same name, in which newspaper columnist Peyton MacGruder comes across a mysterious note in the wake of an air disaster she is covering. Peyton takes on a journey to deliver the note to its intended recipient, and ends up transforming her life. “The Note” stars “General Hospital” legend Genie Francis and Ted McGinley.

A Big Meal For The Rocker
July 16, 2007

The cast and crew of Rocan Productions' new film, The Rocker, took advantage of our large back warehouse today by using it to host their cast and crew's lunch break. The Rocker is being directed by Peter Cattaneo (The Full Monty) and stars Rainn Wilson as "Fish", a down on his luck former drummer who was kicked out of his band right before they made it big. Twenty years later his former band, "Vesuvius" is the biggest rock group in the world, and he's working a job he hates. The story unfolds as Fish joins his seventeen-year-old nephew's garage band.
We were happy to help out. After all, big productions mean lots of mouths to feed, and we're lucky enough to have a large space in the heart of the production district.

Listen... said the Mountain

We've been very pleased to work with Karen Morton on the audio version of her story collection, Listen... said the Mountain. Listen... said the Mountain consists of seven rhyming stories that guide listeners to feel empowered, to build healthy emotional boundaries, and to release negative emotions in a postive, affirming way.
Karen Morton is a conflict healing specialist, and has been working since 1987 developing and implementing training programs for all ages to create a healthy sense of self. Cherry Beach owner Carman Guerrieri comments, "Karen is one of the most interesting people I've ever met. She's incredibily aware and has a unique and powerful technique of understanding the human psyche. She can see into a person's core to determine the root of their character."

Over the course of last week we worked with long-time colleagues Mediatique to record narration and mix the sound for their new documentary, Rosia Montana. The French-language documentary focuses on the issues surrounding the opening of a mine in the town of Rosia Montana in Romania. Stunning images of the Romanian landscape are coupled with the lush soundscapes of the countryside, making for a beautiful documentary.
Rosia Montana is produced by Mediatique's Isabelle Combre and directed by Lara Fitzgerald and Alexandre Oktan. Cherry Beach's Inaam Haq edited and mixed audio for the film.

Princess at Cherry Beach

Our back space has been transformed into the set for the TV movie, Princess, produced by ABC Family Channel with Toronto's Treehouse North Productions. Producer John Calvert is a veteran to the business, and has produced many projects including 1-800-Missing, Brave New Girl, and PSI Factor: Chronicles of the Paranormal.

Power Lines

We just completed recording and mixing a 1-hour radio show for National
Public Relations and the Ontario Power Authority called Power Lines. The program is hosted by CFRB's Christina Cherneskey and Ontario's Chief Energy Conservation Officer, Peter Love. Along with pre-recorded interviews taken on
location with conservation experts, the show features telephone interviews recorded live in our studio with experts from around North America.
On hand from National were John Spalding, Stephen Ledgley and Meredith Sjogren. Power Lines was engineered by Cherry Beach Sound's Inaam Haq and assisted by Jack Jamieson.

Joe Mantegna documents Chicago's Italian heritage

On Friday, Tony award winning actor Joe Mantegna recorded a voiceover narration for Modio Media's upcoming documentary, "And They Came To Chicago: The Italian American Legacy". The program will air on NBC5 and on WTTW11-PBS in late May and continuing through 2007. Modio Media's executive producer, Gia M. Amella directed the session by phone from Chicago.
We were delighted to work with Mantegna, who is currently in Toronto shooting a new film called Right Hand Man . The film is written and directed by Torontonian Chris Smets and is being produced by Peace Arch. Mantegna has had a long and successful career from his early roles in films like The Godfather: Part III to his more recent work in Joan of Arcadia and The Simpsons. Best of luck to both Modio Media and Joe Mantegna in the future.

A Dream comes true

Finn O'hara, one of Kathi Z's top photographers, used our facility for a photo-shoot last week. He dreamt of a striking composition and we provided a space where that dream came to life. Kathi Z used our space in early April for a shoot of Holt Renfrew's new men's fashions. Here's how Finn O'hara describes the experience:
This photo concept came to me in a dream. In it, a young red headed girl appeared in a white dress and red shoes in a very raw, factory space. I have never dreamt of myself working in a photoshoot, but after this vivid dream, I knew I had to make it happen. With the help of Carman and his raw studio space, I was able to make this dream a reality.

The Side Street Project

Recently The Side Street Project used our warehouse for the filming of its pilot, a live music show focusing on the craft of songwriting, musicianship and performance, including unique collaborations between the artists. The producers, Matt and Nicole Hilliard-Forde and Michael Perlmutter, and their crew, transformed the raw warehouse into a warm, intimate space, creating a unique venue for an incredible evening of music. Buck 65, Emm Gryner and Holy Fuck performed a series of original songs and collaborations, enthralling an audience of fans.
