Michael Banton-Jones

Very few engineer/producers have had the wide range of experience and accomplishments of Michael Banton-Jones. Starting at the famed Decca Studios in England, Mike was able to train with the top engineers of the day in both pop and classical genres, honing his skills on the top bands and with large (120-piece) orchestras as well as numerous location recordings. 

Armed with this valuable experience, Mike arrived in Canada in 1974, quickly gaining a reputation of being able to capture that "live-off-the-floor" sound. After a few very successful independent years, Mike headed several Toronto studios including Sounds Interchange and McClear Digital, helping to redesign and upgrade each to a world class level.

Mike has recorded throughout Europe and North America. He has received many awards and Gold / Platinum albums for his work with a diverse group of artists and a variety of music scores for feature films and TV movies.

Mike is well established in the 5.1 surround format, his most recent work being the IMAX film Space Station 3D.   "When dealing with music for surround, there is great latitude for experimentation," he says. "But it's the years of our collective musical sensibilities that help bring the music to life."
