Holt Renfrew Photo-Shoot

Holt Renfrew, Canada’s leading fashion specialty department store joined us today while shooting a 3 day photo-shoot in the large “backspace”. Their famous in-house stylist and producer, Kathi Z, along with her unique photographers captured the images of Holt’s new men’s fashions.

Dempster's Bakery

Grayson Matthews, an award winning advertising agency with incredibly talented staff, was in recently working on audio for a television commercial for Dempster's new product. It was our first time working with them. They're a first-class outfit and we look forward to a long-term working relationship.

Roman Cisneros
March 23, 2007

Clarinet expert Roman Cisneros came into the studio today to record himself playing both clarinet and bass clarinet for audition purposes. He has been playing the clarinet for 19 years and also the bass clarinet for 6 years. Roman’s hometown is Houston Texas, and he attended school in Rochester NY, but he now travels with the Mirvish production Phantom Of The Opera.

Killer Audio and Criterion Collection

The kind folks of Killer Audio stopped in today to record a voiceover for a project they're working on with FM Windows . They left with smiles on their faces and the satisfaction of a job well done.
Yesterday we recorded an audio essay read by James Quandt for a Criterion Collection DVD titled, Three Films by Hiroshi Teshigahara. We are looking forward to working with the famous film connaisseurs again in the future.

Black and Blue
Director John Bradley Deane visited this week to work on the sound mix for his film, Black and Blue. Here's what he has to say about his film:
BLACK AND BLUE explores a couples' struggle to communicate as they descend into darkness. This short film, directed by John Bradley Deane, was co-written with Nicole Deane. It stars Audrey Lupke (HOLLYWOOD NORTH) and Barna Moricz (AT HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD, A TOUCH OF PINK), with cinematography by Ian Anderson, editing by Jason Gilmore and original music by Myra Moreta. Post-production was recently completed with a sound mix at Cherry Beach Sound by Senior Staff Engineer Inaam Haq.

Acura: Project Le Mans
We recently worked with Thomas Orsi to create and encode the 5.1 surround sound mix for Acura: Project Le Mans, a look at Acura's re-entry into world class sports prototype racing. The DVD with surround mix will be distributed in every dealership around North America, and used for In-store sales.

Imprint Music, Grip Limited and Honda Canada
Grip Limited advertising agency joined us once again today along with Imprint Music, mixing a television spot for Honda Canada, in French and English. All in all it was a fun filled day of recording and laughter, but also getting down to business and leaving with a sigh of completion.

Marching with Rosnick Mackinnon Webster
Rosnick Mackinnon Webster brought a thirty-piece marching band to the studio to accompany a TV commercial for Maple Leaf Foods. The entire orchestra included tubas, euphoniums, french horns, trombones, trumpets, baritone sax, tenor sax, alto sax, clarinets, bass clarinet, flutes, piccolo, bass drum, snare, cymbal and a whole lot of soul! It was a great pleasure having them record at Cherry Beach Sound, and we hope to do work again with them in the near future.

Eye of the Beast: ADR with Source Connect
We recently got to check out Source Connect (an internet based communications tool) while doing ADR for Eye of the Beast, a production of MidCanada Production Services Inc. Primary actor Alexandra Castillo recorded here with Gary Yates (Director) and Bruce Little (Audio Post Supervisor) on the line in MidCan's home base of Winnipeg, Manitoba. The results were positive and proved Source Connect as a viable alternative to ISDN.

Schoolhouse Rock

Tanenbaum Community Hebrew Academy of Toronto recently sang their hearts out in the studio all day. These very talented high school students have a great love for music, and they had the opportunity to have a real recording experience! All their songs were recorded on a CD for themselves to have as a keepsake, and to hold as a memory in their hearts.

The return of Proxy Set

Rockers Proxy Set came in for more studio sessions, tracking three new songs for their upcoming album. Rock was made. Pizza, and wings, and subs were consumed. A good time was had by all. Engineered by Inaam Haq with Carey Dodge assisting.

TD BANK in the house
We recently had the pleasure of hosting eighty executives from TD Bank to join us for some musical fun! While here they enjoyed a 30 min tour of the facility by the owner Carman Guerrieri, where he shared the history of our studio with all. They also got to sit in on a real live recording session to get a taste of what goes on behind the scenes, observing jazz duo Brian and Marie Jo Rudolf playing piano and tenor sax. On top of that they got to “rock out” in our rehearsal studios to make some of their own music. All in all it was a fantastic day, and they said nothing but great things about their experience!

WE WILL ROCK YOU TORONTO!
David and Ed Mirvish and The Kimsa Group, in association with Queen Theatrical Productions, Phil McIntyre Entertainment and Tribeca Theatrical Productions held auditions at Cherry Beach Sound for musicians to perform in the Canadian production of the international hit musical WE WILL ROCK YOU.
Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen were in attendance, and said that the Canadian performers have enormous talent at such a young age. They rocked the place all morning and afternoon.
SOCA, SOCA!!
S.W Storm, International Soca Artiste, brings us his new album "Celebrate". Now available! After holding back the release of "Unleashed", Storm has added some great new tracks on the album and his hits from recent years. He just finished his tour in the UK during October and November and came back into the studio to re-master the album.

A Taste of the Fun Life
Connie Bryant scheduled a session with us today to record some classics songs of the past. She made sure to explain that this was a fun recording and not professional, maybe a surprise gift for her husband. We were fortunate enough to enjoy her warm, traditional vocals. Connie’s lovely voice brought the songs to life, supported by accompanist Brahm Goldhamer's strong but subtle piano playing. She’s off to Costa Rica and said we’d here form her in the New Year. Have a great time Connie!

Honda

Imprint Music, with endless musical talent, and Grip Limited, flawlessly executing marketing with ‘better ideas’, worked together to conduct a Honda commercial. We housed an orchestra of 13 players including violins, celli, French horn, bassoon, flute and timpani.

HGTV Challenges
Composer Allan Kane has been recording his award winning TV, Film and commercial Soundtracks at Cherry Beach Sound since 1988. Recently, he recorded the 2nd season music for the hit TV series, Handyman Superstar Challenge and Designer Superstar Challenge. Based out of Atlanta, Georgia, hip hop producer Dada, owner of The Alliance, is in Toronto working on a record at the studio with rap artist Chief, from the Six Nations. DaDa is proud to have a top hit in America, “Come To Me,” produced by his own Young Lord. The track is the first single from Diddy's 2006 album Press Play, featuring Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls.
